The setup

Everything used to take, guide and process the images on this site — and what each part is actually for.

None of this is exotic. It is a mid-range mount, one fast Newtonian, one small refractor and a cooled colour camera, chosen to be workable from a Bortle 6 back garden on short, often cloudy nights. The processing chain is deliberately free and open source, so every write-up here can be reproduced without a software budget. There is more on why it was chosen this way on the about page.
